Today, California rock band CHICO kick off summer the right way with a music video for their hooky single “Blur.” The clip, directed and edited by drummer Tony Rangel, follows the band through a fish eye lens getting into antics before playing a show. The track’s bouncy riffs, baked rhythms, punchy drums, and swaying vocals offer up an infectious blend that expertly previews their forthcoming debut album, Chico, out August 14th through New Morality Zine.

Speaking on “Blur,” drummer Tony Rangel shares:

“It’s about facing the question ‘should I give it up?’ You spend endless hours trying to make something work, so much that you wish there was something to blame for it not working out, but you ultimately know it’s up to you to keep trying. I have a problem of neglecting sleep for things like writing, band practices, working late nights to make up for missed work for music stuff. So much missed sleep that I tend to fall asleep at the wheel often, which would worry anyone’s mother.”

California rock band CHICO will release their self-titled debut album on August 14, 2026 via New Morality Zine. 'Chico' is a dynamic fusion of alternative rock, punk, and hardcore, capturing the exhilarating essence of chasing dreams amid obstacles. With powerful drumming, catchy riffs, and Lance Gibson's versatile vocals transitioning from soothing melodies to intense shouts, the album's ten tracks evoke a range of emotions along with a high-energy fist-pumping atmosphere. The debut album from Chico was produced by Taylor Hecocks at his home studio in Orange, CA with drums recorded with Adam Castilla at Brick Mansion Recordings in Fullerton. The record was mixed and mastered by Scott Goodrich from San Francisco. Containing melodic anthemic hooks and introspective lyrics exploring the commitment and sacrifices in pursuing passion, 'Chico' is definitely a release to put on your radar, with latest track 'Blur' exemplifying the band's hybrid hooky alt-rock/melodic hardcore sound and captivating storytelling. California hardcore band Chico have shared “Can’t Be,” the latest single from their self-titled debut album, out August 14 via New Morality Zine.

Clocking in at under two minutes, the track hits with thumping rhythms, fiery vocals and the band’s charged mix of hardcore, punk and alternative rock. Drummer Tony Rangel says the song explores “the fight between your survival and happiness” and the unequal freedom people have to pursue their dreams.
