SHOW REVIEW

Erra have rapidly become one of my favorite and most exciting bands. Their sound is characteristically heavy, melodic, and catchy, a perfect amalgamation of bands I love like Underoath, Saosin, and Misery Signals.

I was so grateful I was able to go; Erra have quickly taken over as one of my favorite live bands after seeing them years ago at Furnace Fest. That show was insane; the guitar risers, and immaculate riffs were astounding, but an outdoor festival show can only go so far. This was my first time seeing them in a club, and this tour was an impressive lineup.

House of Blues is one of my favorite all time venues; the sound production is unreal and I feel like Orange County fans are some of the most energetic and enthusiastic crowds. This tour has been trading off headliners and thankfully, Erra was headlining because I showed up a bit late. From the second I entered the room, the fanbase for Currents was rabid as hell. The crowd was packed with an intense energy; sweaty long time fans packed in tight like sardines amongst a decent amount of new or younger fans. Currents dominated the stage; they're sheer veterans at this point. Calculated screams and intense melodies, playing a setlist spanning their deep catalog. They were incredible but admittedly, I was biding time until Erra took the stage.

Erra's stage production was off the charts. A synced timer appeared with a countdown and people started chanting. Visuals and lights were at the caliber of a band who should be playing stadiums. Musically, you could tell the band has honed their craft; not only were both guitar players demonstrating a remarkable talent, but their bass player was playing note for note of the arpeggiated and complex basslines. Front man J.T. Cavey had a compelling and charismatic way of amping up the crowd, a truly commanding presence.

The show was broken into 3 acts, with no real distinction between them; and they played a slew of songs off their latest (fantastic) record Silence Outlives The Earth. While their singer had some clear backing tracks and vocal help, the melodies and high vocals were note for note perfect; almost too perfect. Don't even get me started on the drumming. Impeccable!

Erra are a band who are on the rise for good reason. They've honed a sound that blends progressive hardcore and metalcore with catchy melodies and are masters of their craft. Few things are more exciting than watching a band like this dominate the stage, and it's refreshing to see a band with an abundance of raw talent command the stage in the way they did this fateful night in April. I can assure you, in whatever city I happen to be residing in, there's little to no chance I'll miss the opportunity to see Erra again.
