Failure
Failure is a critically acclaimed American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1990 by Ken Andrews (vocals, guitar, bass, programming) and Greg Edwards (guitar, bass, keys), often joined by drummer Kellii Scott. Renowned for their space-rock and post-grunge sound, intricate, and meticulous production, the band is often regarded as "your favorite band's favorite band". Their sound is often categorized as alternative rock, space rock, post-grunge, and shoegaze, with a heavy emphasis on textured, layered, and often self-produced soundscapes with big guitar sounds. After a 17-year hiatus, the band reunited in 2014, releasing The Heart Is A Monster (2015), In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind (2018), and Wild Type Droid (2021) and will release a new LP "Location Lost" in 2026. RIYL: Hum, Shiner, Catherine Wheel, Jawbox, Quicksand
News updates for Failure
LA influential 90s space rockers Failure announce new album "Location Lost" and release new single 'The Air's on Fire'
Influential 90's LA space rockers Failure have announced their upcoming album "Location Lost" set for release on April 24, via Failure Records/Arduous Records/Virgin Music Group. Along with the announcement, the band has released lead off single 'The air's on Fire'. Regarding the new single, “The Air’s on Fire” embodies this sense of disorienting unfamiliarity. Almost immediately after finishing editing the documentary, Andrews suffered a serious back injury that required surgery. The operation was technically successful; the recovery was not. The single is the album’s most literal confrontation with Andrews’ medical trauma, its oppressive atmospherics and crushing bottom end mirroring his struggle to breathe on his own. “That song is directly about my surgery and waking up,” he explains. “I basically coded. Everything was spinning. I kept saying, ‘Turn the air on. I’m fine—just take me home.’ I was definitely not fine.” Stream the new single below.
The new album is described as a testament to the band's journey of self-discovery and reinvention, following their 17-year hiatus and reformation in 2014. With nine new tracks, the LP presents a modern and evolving sonic landscape that pushes the boundaries of their signature sound. Noteworthy collaborations, such as with Paramore's Hayley Williams on 'The Rising Skyline,' add layers of emotion and depth to the album, making "Location Lost" a standout release under their new label. Expect a captivating blend of introspective themes, disorienting yet cathartic sonic elements, and a raw, authentic exploration of where Failure stands in the present music landscape.
