Left On Film Debuts With "Lighting Matches"
Left On Film, the new project from Brooklyn-transplant-turned-Bay-Area songwriter Robert Abel, is out of the gate with "Lighting Matches," the first in a planned series of singles.
The track leans into the formula Abel has been building toward: interlocking guitars, layered synths, and melodies that trade off without ever settling down, all with a NYC-meets-Britain lean and a healthy dose of 80s New Wave. It's a warm, slightly restless three minutes that sounds like it was made by someone who owns a lot of pedals and a lot of records.
Abel co-produced, engineered, and mixed the single with Shannon Ferguson of Longwave and Falcon, with additional engineering from Scott McDowell and Liam Nelson and mastering by Fred Kevorkian. "Lighting Matches" was written by Robert Abel, Greg Abel, and Jake Siegler, and features Abel on vocals and guitars, Nic Brown on drums, Siegler on bass, and Greg Abel on additional guitar. Drums were tracked at Splashlight Studios in Oakland.
