Quicksand
Quicksand is an influential American post-hardcore band formed in NYC in 1990 by Walter Schreifels who was instrumental in legendary hardcore bands like Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits and melodic post-hardcore band Rival Schools. I Known for a heavy, melodic sound blending crunchy distorted guitars with thick grooves and post-hardcore delivery, they released seminal major label albums Slip (1993) and Manic Compression (1995) for Island Records. Following a breakup in the mid/late 90s, they reunited permanently in 2012, releasing Interiors (2017) and Distant Populations (2021) and are set to release their new LP Bring on The Psychics in July 2026 via Equal Vision Records.

Legendary NY post-hardcore band Quicksand have just announced their new album "Bring On The Psychics" on July 17, 2026 via Equal Vision Records, marking a blend of the band's heavy 90s groove-laden sound, with a modern, experimental approach. “For this album, I was going back to a lot of my earlier influences about ‘Break Down The Walls’ or ‘Start Today,’” says lead guitarist/vocalist Walter Schreifels. Rounded out by long time bassist/vocalist Sergio Vega, and drummer Alan Cage, the album offers energetic tracks like lead off singles “Get To It” which sounds like a cross between Snapcase, Turnstile and classic Quicksand (you can definitely hear how Walter tapped back into Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits), and “Regenerate,” another immediate and punchy track with their trademark grooves, that also taps into the more experimental side of the band during the bridge, before climaxing with a classic shout along hook "Balance, Pride, Humility!" Known for their hardcore roots, Quicksand's latest release promises a dynamic musical journey that appeals to both longtime fans and newcomers. Distant Populations
August 13, 2021Quicksand's fourth studio album, Distant Populations, set for digital release on August 13 and vinyl on September 24 via Epitaph Records, was produced by Will Yip and mixed by Josh Wilbur. The album features a punchier sound compared to its predecessor, with 11 concise tracks exploring the dualities of individual relationships and societal connections.
With gripping lyricism and raw power, Quicksand delves into themes of alienation and loneliness in the digital age. The single "Missile Command" highlights the band's trademark groove and captures their essence in a new, compelling way.
