Cloud Nothings

What Kind of Hell Did You Survive?

Cloud Nothings will release What Kind of Hell Did You Survive? on January 29, 2027, via Pure Noise Records. The Cleveland trio’s tenth studio album follows 2024’s Final Summer and takes their melodic, distortion-heavy sound further into metal, drawing on Queens of the Stone Age, Motörhead, Earth and Electric Wizard.

Recorded at Machines With Magnets with producer and engineer Seth Manchester, the nine-track album brings palm-muted riffs, galloping drums, sludgy passages and breakdowns into the band’s tightly wound songwriting. Its lyrics confront cruel governments, global conflict and personal struggle, alongside the importance of community.

“The album is our attempt to pay homage to the heavy rock music we’ve been listening to over the last few years,” Dylan Baldi explains. “We were feeling a little pigeonholed in the indie rock world and wanted to make a change in our sound that revealed a different facet of our interests and abilities.”

Lead single “Death Keeps Me Alive” introduces that shift through searing guitars, anguished vocals and a black-metal-influenced finale. Baldi says its narrator is a lurking evil power that feeds on death, war and hate. The official video and Spotify single are embedded below. Preorders are available now.

Cloud Nothings Announce What Kind of Hell Did You Survive?, Share “Death Keeps Me Alive”

October 21, 2026

Cloud Nothings have announced their tenth studio album, What Kind of Hell Did You Survive?, due January 29, 2027, via Pure Noise Records. The announcement comes with lead single “Death Keeps Me Alive” and its official music video.

Produced and engineered by Seth Manchester at Machines With Magnets, the nine-track follow-up to 2024’s Final Summer takes the Cleveland trio into heavier, metal-influenced territory. Dylan Baldi cites Queens of the Stone Age, Motörhead, Earth and Electric Wizard among the influences, with the band pushing their distorted guitars and frantic drumming further while holding onto their knack for melody.

“Death Keeps Me Alive” sets the tone with searing riffs, throat-shredding vocals and a black-metal-influenced finale. Baldi explains:

“Lyrically 'Death Keeps Me Alive' is from the point of view of a lurking evil power that never gets fully defeated in the world and feeds off of death, war and hate, which is kind of a fun generically 'metal' thing to sing about. I hope people hear this song and get excited for what the rest of the record could possibly sound like, and recognize that this is going to be a new version of Cloud Nothings that didn't really have a precedent prior to this recording.”

It’s an absolute ripper: angsty, melodic and driven by a wall of distorted guitars, with the kind of ragged urgency and hooks Cloud Nothings have always done so well. That heavier edge only makes it hit harder.
