Guided By Voices will release Speculation and Gossip on January 22, 2027 via GBV Inc Records. The 16-track album follows 2026’s Crawlspace Of The Pantheon and arrives with lead single “Designed For Use,” premiered through Rolling Stone.

The announcement introduces the single as a buzzing, angular slice of indie rock. Its title came from a line Robert Pollard spotted around the edge of an old record label: “Designed for use on most stereophonic equipment.” He turned that practical instruction into an anthem about endurance and the possibilities of a song.

“A statement about my own versatility and endurance in writing songs and making records for the last 45 years,” Pollard explains. “Or it could apply to any human experience. It’s an anthem...”

The album opens with “My Cartoon” and closes with “Solar Systems,” with “Designed For Use” appearing fifth. Preorders are available through Rockathon Records; listen to the single below.

Guided By Voices have announced Speculation and Gossip, due January 22, 2027 via GBV Inc Records, and shared lead single “Designed For Use.” The 16-track album follows this year’s Crawlspace Of The Pantheon.

Premiered through Rolling Stone, “Designed For Use” is described as a buzzing, angular three-minute burst of indie rock. Robert Pollard found its title on an old record label, where the words “Designed for use on most stereophonic equipment” caught his attention.

“I thought it sounded interesting and decided to turn it into a song,” Pollard explains. “A statement about my own versatility and endurance in writing songs and making records for the last 45 years. Or it could apply to any human experience. It’s an anthem...”
