Holding Absence

Modern Life Is Lonely

Modern Life Is Lonely is Holding Absence’s fourth full-length album and their first album for Sumerian Records. Due August 28, 2026, the record follows 2023’s The Noble Art Of Self Destruction and opens a new chapter for the Cardiff band after their earlier run on SharpTone.

The album’s first singles, “Whisper Of A Dream” and “Reflection,” point to a broader version of Holding Absence: still rooted in post-hardcore force and huge melodic choruses, but now threaded with electronic textures and a colder, more futuristic visual world. “Reflection” arrives with Lucas Woodland confronting self-destruction and healing, while the album as a whole circles themes of loneliness, trauma, mortality and the search for meaning.

Woodland has called Modern Life Is Lonely the band’s “boldest and most creative body of work to date.” The 11-song tracklist runs from opener “Reanimate” through the title track, “Whisper Of A Dream,” “Scorched Earth” and closer “Kyoto Snow.”
