popfree Announce New Album Overt, Share New Single “Fools Gold”
September 11, 2026
Orange County emocore band popfree have announced their new full-length Overt, out October 23 via New Morality Zine, and shared the album’s new single “Fools Gold.”
Across seven tracks, Overt finds the band pushing further into the melodic intersection of emo, post-hardcore and indie rock that defined their 2025 Spring EP. Recorded and mixed by Colin Knight at Paradise Studios in Anaheim and mastered by Ben Harris, the album pairs dynamic rhythms and layered guitars with emotionally charged vocals and a clear nod to the angular ’90s emo sound of bands like No Knife and The Jazz June.
“Fools Gold” is a strong first look at that direction, built around punchy chords, shifting melodies and a frustrated lyrical edge.
On the somber inspiration behind the song, vocalist Jacob Beaver shares: “‘Fools Gold’ was written as a reflection on conditions that we are subjected to in this country. A song of frustration and disappointment at empty promises made by the greedy capitalists who were supposed to leave the world better than they found it, but instead, take.”
