History Books

New Jersey's The Gaslight Anthem have just announced their sixth full length LP and first album in nearly a decade titled "History Books". The album will be released on their very own Rich Mahogany Recordings on October 27, 2023. History Books sees the New Jersey-bred band once again bringing their soulful breed of life-affirming rock n’ roll to explore everything from mortality and mental illness to the more precarious dimensions of human connection. In the glorious tradition of their seminal 2008 sophomore album, THE ’59 SOUND, the new LP matches its raw emotional power with the rich craft and wildly triumphant energy that has defined the band since its very start. “None of us wanted to make a very somber or serious record showing how much we’ve matured,” says Fallon. “We’ve all changed and grown and learned so much, but the overall mood was a feeling of excitement to be back together and making music that means something to us.”

HISTORY BOOKS was first heralded by this spring’s arrival of the joyous “Positive Charge,” and now they have shared their latest single and the title track “History Books,” which sees frontman Brian Fallon trading duet vocals with longtime band champion and fellow New Jerseyan Bruce Springsteen – and is accompanied by an official music video (directed by Kelsey Ayres) streaming below. “When Bruce Springsteen said I should write a duet for us, I think my head exploded,” says Brian Fallon. “It will never get old to me that one of the greatest songwriters in the world, and one of my hero’s voices, will forever be captured in a song I wrote at a small wooden desk, in October, in New Jersey.”

The album was produced by GRAMMY® Award-winner Peter Katis (The National, Kurt Vile) at his Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, CT and will contain 10 songs. Stream the first two singles below and pre-order the album as well.

The Gaslight Anthem slow it down with nostalgic sounding latest single "Autumn"

Oct 3, 2023 - The Gaslight Anthem release their latest single, “Autumn,” available everywhere now. The song drifts into a contemplative mood as the band share a deeply felt meditation on impermanence, set against a lovely backdrop of luminous harmonies and oceanic guitar work. “Autumn” heralds The Gaslight Anthem’s first new album together in almost a decade, HISTORY BOOKS, arriving Friday, October 27 on their own Rich Mahogany Recordings label via Thirty Tigers. Pre-orders are available now. “I wrote this song on a really beautiful fall day, looking out the window and thinking, ‘How many days like this do we get to see?’” says The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon. “So much of life is just trying to get by, but every now and then you have those moments where you can really feel grateful for the small things.”

The Gaslight Anthem drop 3rd single from forthcoming LP

Sept 5th 2023 - The Gaslight Anthem just dropped their 3rd single titled "Little Fires" from their eagerly awaited new album "History Books" out October 27th, 2023. The new song, which can be streamed below, sounds like a full return to their earlier more punk influenced material, almost like it could’ve been lifted from The 59 Sound, which is pretty exciting to hear, and without sounding dated at all! More than any of the band's new songs to date, "Little Fires" reflects The Gaslight Anthem's origins in punk rock. Furthering that connection, the track includes guest vocals from one of the genre's current central figures: PUP frontman Stefan Babcock. “‘Little Fires’ is like the opposite end of the spectrum from the frustration you feel in ‘History Books,’” says Brian Fallon. “It’s an empowerment song, about refusing to play along with the kind of people who always seem to be throwing a grenade into the room for no particular reason.” "Little Fires" follows the previously released singles "Positive Charge" and title track "History Books" all of which can be streamed below. Based on the 3 singles released so far from 'History Books', the new LP is certainly shaping up to be another great addition to The Gaslight Anthem's discography.
