Chat Pile release Who Loves the Sun, share focus track “Shrine”

Chat Pile’s third full-length Who Loves the Sun is out today, September 4, via The Flenser. Across 10 tracks, the Oklahoma City quartet sound as crushing and unhinged as they ever have, with some of the heaviest and most punishing moments of their career, but the record also pushes further into melody, hooks and atmosphere than anything they’ve done before. The result still sounds unmistakably like Chat Pile, just with a wider range — moving from detuned, suffocating noise rock and sludge into stretches that pull from pre-2000s indie/alt-rock and new wave.

Lyrically, Who Loves the Sun turns its attention toward the malaise of modern life, from technological overreach and data-driven inauthenticity to climate anxiety, dead-end work and a broader sense of societal decay. Where God’s Country focused on a particularly American dread and Cool World widened the lens to global systemic violence, the new record takes aim at what the band describes as the slow-motion apocalypse of 21st-century existence.

To mark the release, Chat Pile have shared a video for focus track “Shrine.” The band’s North American headline tour begins next week and runs through November, with additional festival dates in September and December.
