Cool World

Oklahoma City sludgy noise rock band Chat Pile is releasing their sophomore album "Cool World" on October 11th, following their 2022 breakout record "God's Country." The album explores themes of modern malaise on a global scale, delving into the societal impact of disasters at home and abroad and how they affect one another. Influenced by bands like The Jesus Lizard and Big Black, Chat Pile's music is a blend of cacophonous noise rock with elements of goth, alt/indie hooks, post-punk and off-kilter metal grooves, which only scratches the surface of what can be heard in the album's ten tracks. Album opener "I Am Dog Now" is now available on all digital streaming platforms.

Chat Pile drop massive and pummeling new single "Masc" with accompanying new video

Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile have released the album's second single "Masc" from their forthcoming LP "Cool World" due October 11, 2024, with an epic, narrative music video by Stephen Mondics (director) and Mario DeLeon (producer). Bassist Stin comments, "This is our first time collaborating with Stephen Mondics and the band is completely blown away with how well he was able to capture the spirit of the song. As huge movie buffs, it's also a legitimate dream-come-true to have a music video shot completely on film under our belts." Busch adds, "'Masc' is the saddest Chat Pile song since 'Tenkiller.' Unlike the rest of the album, this song deals with horrors of interpersonal intimacy, yet it is connected with the rest of the record through the overarching theme of oppression, despair and malaise."

The new single showcases their trademark distortion filled, groove-laden noise rock sound, while incorporating new elements of shoegaze and atmospheric elements, coupled with melodic moments and big hooks to go along with it. Plain and simple, this shit rocks and sounds like a band staying true to their sound while experimenting and progressing into new territory as well. "Masc" also follows their last single "I Am Dog Now" which are both an exciting preview of the forthcoming LP, that fans of Jesus Lizard, Helmet, Rollins Band, Unsane and the like should all enjoy. Stream both singles and their accompanying videos below.

Chat Pile release latest groove and riff heavy single "Funny Man" from forthcoming LP

As they prepare for the release of their highly-anticipated sophomore LP Cool World, Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile have revealed the album's third single "Funny Man." The song is about "...being a servant, indentured or otherwise. I hate having to explain the content of these songs, because I want it to mean whatever it needs to mean to those listening, but essentially it concerns illusion vs reality in regards to America and war. The title comes from an obscure British movie but otherwise there’s no relation," says Chat Pile frontman Raygun Busch. Bassist Stin adds, "My favorite thing about 'Funny Man' is that we've finally accomplished creating our version of the ultimate Beavis and Butthead couch music. This is like our 'Thunderkiss '65' or 'Existence is Punishment.'"

The new single arrives with a music video by multi-disciplinary artist Matt Rosenbaum. Stin comments, "The patient, static nature of the video fighting against the frenetic energy of the song makes for a cool and queasy juxtaposition that I personally love. Matt was able to tap into a very specific uncomfortable feeling that conjures those depressive semi-conscious dream states that we've all experienced but can't quite articulate."

The latest single is the third from their forthcoming sophomore LP "Cool World" due out October 11, 2024 and follows previously released singles "I Am Dog Now" and "Masc". Check out the crushingly noisy riff and heavy groove on new single "Funny Man" below.
