Philadelphia’s They Are Gutting a Body of Water have shared two new singles from KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, arriving digitally October 16 and physically November 20 via ATO Records x Julia’s War. “illusion hue” features Toner, the project of Oakland musician Samuelito Cruz, while “am i wrong” brings together fellow Philadelphia band A Country Western and Dead Sullivan, the project of Texas musician Boone Patrello.
The 29-track mixtape expands TAGABOW’s mix of shoegaze, noise and electronics through collaborations with SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE, Hotline TNT, Full Body 2, Greg Mendez, DJ Manny, LUCY (Cooper B. Handy), RXKNephew and more. The two new songs follow earlier previews “kool marder” featuring Cashier, “the rook” and “free willy.”
Doug Dulgarian traces the idea to the inexpensive, homemade mixtape CDs he grew up buying at convenience stores, where local producers and DJs brought different artists together through beats and repurposed vocal stems. “And so that’s what I did with this one, mashups of all my favorite artists. Shoutout DJ WHITEOWL, RIP.”
