They Are Gutting A Body Of Water

Philadelphia's They Are Gutting a Body of Water (TAGABOW) have released their sprawling new 29-track mixtape, KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, out digitally October 16 via ATO Records and Julia's War, with a physical release following November 20.

Following last year's LOTTO, Doug Dulgarian takes the band's unpredictable blend of shoegaze, noise and electronic experimentation into collaborative mixtape territory, pulling in SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE, Hotline TNT, Full Body 2, Greg Mendez, haloplus+, DJ Manny and plenty more from the underground. It's a huge, wonderfully unruly collection worth diving into. Check out the mixtape release page and listen here.

Philadelphia’s They Are Gutting a Body of Water have shared two new singles from KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, arriving digitally October 16 and physically November 20 via ATO Records x Julia’s War. “illusion hue” features Toner, the project of Oakland musician Samuelito Cruz, while “am i wrong” brings together fellow Philadelphia band A Country Western and Dead Sullivan, the project of Texas musician Boone Patrello.

The 29-track mixtape expands TAGABOW’s mix of shoegaze, noise and electronics through collaborations with SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE, Hotline TNT, Full Body 2, Greg Mendez, DJ Manny, LUCY (Cooper B. Handy), RXKNephew and more. The two new songs follow earlier previews “kool marder” featuring Cashier, “the rook” and “free willy.”

Doug Dulgarian traces the idea to the inexpensive, homemade mixtape CDs he grew up buying at convenience stores, where local producers and DJs brought different artists together through beats and repurposed vocal stems. “And so that’s what I did with this one, mashups of all my favorite artists. Shoutout DJ WHITEOWL, RIP.”

Philadelphia’s They Are Gutting a Body of Water have announced KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, a sprawling 29-track mixtape arriving October 16 digitally and November 20 physically via ATO Records x Julia’s War. Along with the announcement, TAGABOW have shared three new tracks: “kool marder” featuring Cashier, “the rook” and “free willy.”

The follow-up to 2025’s LOTTO takes the band’s already restless mix of shoegaze, noise and electronic experimentation even further into mixtape territory, pulling in a huge cast of collaborators including SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE, Hotline TNT, Full Body 2, haloplus+, Greg Mendez, DJ Manny, Horse Jumper of Love, Her New Knife, A Country Western, Total Wife and more.

Doug Dulgarian says the idea grew out of the homemade and bootleg mixtape culture he remembers growing up with—local DJs throwing favorite artists together, remixing parts and creating unexpected combinations. That same anything-goes approach runs throughout KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II, making it a loose, collaborative companion to TAGABOW’s more traditional studio records.
