Los Angeles musician and producer Yummm, the project of Matty Bedrosian, has shared “Yarrow,” the latest single from the forthcoming album Sillyputty, due November 13.

Where earlier single “Plug” offered a more propulsive introduction to the record, “Yarrow” takes a more contemplative turn. Blending intimate bedroom-pop songwriting with the hazier textures of slowcore and guitar-driven alternative rock, the song reflects on the unpredictable pull of a romantic fling, particularly when uncertainty and self-doubt make it difficult to distinguish connection from losing yourself in someone else.

Bedrosian draws on the yarrow plant’s traditional use in stopping bleeding as a metaphor for the difference between healing and trying to replace what has been lost. Across Sillyputty, his self-directed approach to writing, recording and production brings together the off-kilter intimacy and layered textures that should appeal to listeners of Alex G, Duster, DIIV and Spirit of the Beehive.
