Montreal post-hardcore band Empty Nesters have announced their new six-song EP, No Sad, arriving November 27, and shared the lead single and video “Never Wanted.”
Led by Eric Liao, Empty Nesters have steadily changed shape since beginning as a lo-fi recording project in 2016, moving through garage rock, indie, shoegaze and post-punk before taking a much harder turn on 2025’s Deaf Monks. No Sad shifts again, bringing the emotional pull of emo into the weight and dynamic tension of post-hardcore while holding onto the project’s rough-edged character.
It also marks a significant change in how Empty Nesters make records. No Sad is the project’s first release recorded as a full band, with Liao joined by Angel Parra Vela, Matteo Fabre and Matthew Galamaga. The result feels more immediate and physical, with vulnerable melodies pushing against heavier guitars and abrupt swings in intensity.
“Never Wanted” follows the previously released title track, while “Slipping Under” is set to arrive October 28 ahead of the full EP.
