Fraternal Twin return today with Halo Fell Forever, their first full-length album in a decade and the follow-up to 2016’s Homeworlding. Led by Tom Christie and recorded with producer Dan Howard at Chateau Grand in Brooklyn, the nine-song record brings together material written across different eras of the project while pushing the band’s slowcore, shoegaze and indie-rock foundation into heavier, more unsettled territory.
Across Halo Fell Forever, shimmering guitars and slow-moving melodies give way to bursts of distortion and noise, with Christie writing through toxic relationships, mental health, self-love and the process of finding clarity after a difficult stretch. The album’s gradual tension and release comes through especially well on the three singles: the insular, brightly toned “Solitude,” the fuzzy and cathartic “Medicine,” and the hazy, slow-churning title track.

The new single moves at the band’s patient, slow-burning pace, with hazy guitars and Tom Christie’s vocals gradually giving way to heavier distortion. Christie says the phrase “Halo Fell Forever” first emerged while listening back to improvised vocals from the demo, eventually becoming tied to a personal “fall from innocence” and the idea of learning from mistakes without trying to live up to other people’s expectations.

Fraternal Twin have shared “Medicine,” the latest preview of their first new album in a decade, Halo Fell Forever, arriving September 4. Built around fuzzy, ringing guitars, a driving bassline and cathartic drums, the track captures the struggle to reconnect with a version of yourself that feels lost.
Bandleader Tom Christie describes “Medicine” as his favorite song on the record, explaining that it grew out of his experiences with anxiety, rumination, clinical depression and his decision to begin taking antidepressants. The song ultimately turns toward recovery and the hope of finding that former self again.
“Medicine” arrives with an official video directed by Nara Avakian of Nara’s Room, featuring Christie in a sunlit park beneath layers of vintage camera distortion. The Dan Howard-produced Halo Fell Forever follows 2016’s Homeworlding and is due September 4.
