Formed in Northern Michigan in 2016 by musician and visual artist Evan Alderton, Melodic Canvas channel the raw nerve of '90s alternative rock through dense shoegaze textures and grunge-heavy guitars. Rooted in Bay City, the group combine loud, reverb-drenched riffs, eerie atmosphere and melodic, emotionally direct songwriting, drawing comparisons to Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Hum and Superheaven.
The lineup has included Evan Alderton, Cameron Bash, Ryan Yockey and Lane Butler. Following the 2021 album Sterile and 2024's Discoloration, Melodic Canvas return with A Portrait of Fear, scheduled for November 4, 2026 through Setterwind Records, with Candlepin Records also involved in the release. The 2026 singles include 'Limn' and 'Dust'.
