Softcult, the Ontario-based duo of twins Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn, are set to release their highly-anticipated debut full-length album, 'When A Flower Doesn’t Grow', on January 30, 2026. This album is a self-produced and self-recorded collection that explores themes of trauma, rebirth, and transformation. The title is inspired by a quote from Dutch author Alexander Den Heijer, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the environment for growth rather than blaming the individual. The lead single, '16/25', addresses the predatory dynamics between older men and younger women, highlighting the societal double standards that exist. Musically, Softcult blends grunge, shoegaze, and alt-rock, creating a sound that is both intimate and universal. Their previous EP, 'Heaven', garnered significant attention and praise, establishing them as a rising force in the music scene. With a fiercely independent ethos, they continue to engage with their community and challenge societal norms through their art.
