thrown formed in Stockholm in 2019 when vocalist Marcus Lundqvist and guitarist Andreas Malm decided they wanted to build something heavier and more modern than their previous projects. They brought in Buster Odeholm—drummer for Vildhjarta and Humanity's Last Breath and one of Swedish metal's most in-demand producers—and guitarist Johan Liljeblad, locking in a lineup that would shape the band's sound from the start.
Much of their early material was written during the COVID-19 lockdowns, eventually surfacing as the debut EP EXTENDED PAIN (Arising Empire, 2022). The record was a gut-punch introduction: blistering nu-metalcore driven by groove-heavy riffs, whiplash tempo shifts, and Odeholm's bone-dry production. It racked up over 50 million Spotify streams and spent the better part of a year in the platform's Global Metal Top 200. The band hit the road immediately, supporting Counterparts on a European run and quickly expanding to North American and Australian dates alongside Fit For A King, Invent Animate, Alpha Wolf, and While She Sleeps.
Their debut full-length, EXCESSIVE GUILT, arrived August 30, 2024—eleven tracks in just over twenty minutes, with Kerrang! praising its "suffocating brevity and nü-metalcore bite." It debuted at #3 on the Swedish Hard Rock Albums Chart. At the end of the year the band swept the Heavy Music Awards, taking Best Breakthrough Live Artist and Best Breakthrough Album. They've since played Bloodstock 2025, Download Festival 2026, and headlined stages across Europe.
In June 2026, thrown released "rehearsed"—produced, mixed, and mastered by Odeholm—their sharpest single yet, with a music video directed by Pavel Trebukhin (Imminence, Gaerea). A fall 2026 European and UK headline tour follows, with Counterparts, No Cure, and HEAVENSGATE in support.
