Death From Above 1979

Private Lives is the fifth studio album from Death From Above 1979, arriving January 29, 2027 through Last Gang/MNRK. The record follows 2021’s Is 4 Lovers and grew out of a period in which Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler spent significant time revisiting their back catalog through anniversary performances of You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine and The Physical World.

Rather than staying in retrospective mode, the duo used those shows to reconnect with the band’s foundational chemistry. Private Lives leans into the push and pull that has always powered DFA 1979: distorted bass and hard rhythmic impact set against melody, tenderness and a sense of play. Grainger’s vocals sit more prominently in the arrangements, while Keeler leaves more space around the riffs instead of packing every moment at full density.

The title track opens the album with thick low end, sharp melody and a run of maniacal riffs while framing privacy as a subject in an age of constant overexposure. Elsewhere, the album includes the CSS collaboration “Mystery,” the hardcore-leaning “Dreams” and the more anthemic “Like My Ex Did.” The record was produced and mixed by Adrian Popovich and Sebastien Grainger.
