There Are Ways To Leave
By: First Joy
Los Angeles alternative rock band First Joy will be releasing their debut LP titled There Are Ways to Leave on June 5, 2026. The album will consist of 10 new tracks combining their influences from 90s spacey alt rock stalwarts like Failure, Hum, and Slowdive with modern emo, alt-grunge, and slowgaze bands like Gleemer, Downward, Teenage Wrist, Warper, Seer Believer, and Prize Horse. Their sound delivers a captivating blend of 90s spacey alt-rock nostalgia and modern emo/grunge influences, consisting of fuzzed-out guitars, dark tones, soaring melodies, and explosive choruses. Through their layered instrumentation and melancholy vocal delivery, First Joy create an immersive sonic experience that transports listeners through atmospheric landscapes that should please fans of the aforementioned bands.
The band formed by childhood friends Jack Ludwick and Jordan Kulp, clearly draw inspiration from 90’s guitar driven alt rock and the newer grungegaze revival sound. The LA-based group formed in 2020 and released their first single ‘No Pain’ in 2023. Their EP ‘Unlimited Permanent Bliss’ was released in 2024, featuring production by Marshall Gallagher (Teenage Wrist) and Jason Inguagiato (Belmont). Following its release, they have appeared on lineups with bands like Prize Horse, Object of Affection, and Touch Girl Apple Blossom. Their self-produced debut album ‘There Are Ways to Leave’ will be out on June 5th, with new singles ‘Sometimes’ and ‘Little Jokes’ now streaming.
