Uncle

fish narc returns with Uncle, his fifth album, due October 16, 2026 via K Records. Arriving barely a year after frog song, the album finds Olympia songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Ben Funkhouser pushing even further into the guitar-driven alternative rock that shaped that record.

For Uncle, Funkhouser teamed with producer and engineer Alex Farrar (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Fiddlehead, Archers of Loaf), marking the first time he worked on one of his records with a producer outside his usual circle. The result draws heavily from the fuzzy, melodic pull of ’80s and ’90s college rock, with touchstones including Teenage Fanclub and Paul Westerberg.

Lead single “Much Less Me” is a driving, crunchy guitar-pop cut that pairs jangly hooks with the album’s more reflective perspective. Across Uncle, Funkhouser looks back on the last decade, dealing with expectations, aging, and the freedom that comes with no longer feeling the need to prove anything.
