Pet Fox

Balance

Pet Fox’s fourth album, Balance, marks a more expansive studio chapter for the Boston trio. Recorded live over seven days at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville with producer Alex Farrar (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Squirrel Flower), the album pairs the band’s textured, melodic indie rock with a more immediate full-band sound.

Written and demoed between fall 2023 and spring 2024 in the band’s Boston rehearsal space, Balance is their first fully studio-produced album after years of largely self-producing. The band cites Pinback, Autolux and Alex G among the influences informing the record’s intricate guitars, understated hooks and emotional detail.

Lyrically, Balance centers on the push and pull between self-care, people-pleasing, anxiety and learning to trust your instincts. The title track opens the album with restless energy, while “Leveled Out” turns murkier and more restrained and “Moving Along” offers the record’s breeziest moment. Across nine songs, Pet Fox focus less on reinvention than on refinement, capturing the chemistry of a band whose members have been making music together for years.

Pet Fox Announce New Album Balance, Share Title Track

September 1, 2026

Boston indie-rock trio Pet Fox — featuring members of Ovlov and Gouge Away — have announced their fourth album, Balance, due October 23 via Exploding In Sound Records. The nine-song LP was recorded over seven days at Drop of Sun Studios with producer Alex Farrar (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Squirrel Flower), capturing the band’s textured, melodic songwriting with a more immediate live-band energy.

Along with the announcement, Pet Fox have shared the album’s title track, a restless opener built around jangling, distorted angular guitars, big melodies and a driving rhythm that pushes the song from a melodic mid-tempo start into an upbeat rocker. Vocalist/guitarist Theo Hartlett says the song comes from “fighting the balance of impulsivity versus indecision,” a theme that ties into the album’s broader focus on anxiety, self-care and learning to trust your instincts.

Balance arrives October 23, 2026 via Exploding In Sound Records.
