Chastity have shared “So Alive I Cry,” the latest single from I Built This Prison Myself, out November 13 via Deathwish Inc. and Dine Alone Records in Canada. The powerful, introspective track arrives with a video directed by Justin Singer and continues the record’s mix of melodic hardcore, shoegaze and punk.
The new album is Brandon Williams’ most narrative work yet, drawing on the history of the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital and a 1976 fire set by a teenage patient. Rather than treating the story simply as an act of destruction, Williams uses it to explore fear, powerlessness, control and the fight to hold onto a sense of self.
