DIIV have shared “Trillions,” the latest single from their forthcoming fifth album, ZIRP!, out October 30 via Fantasy Recordings. The track follows previously released singles “The Fountain” and “Kid.”
Co-written with ZIRP! producer A. G. Cook, “Trillions” is the most pop song DIIV have ever made, pushing further toward the pop instinct that has always existed beneath the band’s shoegaze haze and heavier alternative edge. The album as a whole finds DIIV bringing the harsher shoegaze and grunge textures of records like Frog In Boiling Water and Deceiver into sharper, more immediate melodies.
The single arrives with a new video directed by Jaxon Whittington, built around an exaggerated world of big houses, cash, fast cars and business suits that leaves the line between fantasy, delusion and satire deliberately blurred.
