DIIV is an American shoegaze/dream-pop alt-rock band originally named Dive, with a sound reminiscent of bands like Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing. Their discography includes the albums "Oshin," "Is the Is Are," and "Deceiver," with a new album set for release in spring 2024 on Fantasy Records.
DIIV return with ZIRP! , their A. G. Cook-produced fifth album, arriving October 30, 2026. Per the band’s own statement, they view it as their pop record: a fun, direct and highly accessible alternative-rock counterpoint to the heavier mood of Frog in Boiling Water .
Brooklyn shoegazers DIIV are set to release their fourth album, Frog in Boiling Water, produced by Chris Coady. The album reflects a tumultuous four-year creative process that almost tore the band apart but ultimately led to a deeper and more ambitious musical exploration. With a blend of dream-pop and post-rock, their lead single "Brown Paper Bag" offers a taste of the lyrical and musical depth found throughout the record.
DIIV's third studio album, Deceiver, is scheduled for release on October 4th, 2019 via Captured Tracks. This record marks a significant comeback following frontman Zachary Cole Smith's recovery period and was produced with the assistance of Sonny Diperri. With a sound described as a mix of indie rock and metallic catharsis, fans of Nine Inch Nails and My Blood Valentine may find this release captivating.
DIIV have just released “Raining On Your Pillow,” the final single from their forthcoming new album, Frog in Boiling Water, out May 24, 2025 via Fantasy Records. Of the song, the band says “‘Raining on your Pillow’ is a song which brings to mind the shameful past (and present) of American imperialism. Lost in a terrifying landscape, a lone soldier ruminates on the existence of a landscape of his own far removed from conflict. Does it matter if this place is real or not? Is a false sense of hope enough to give our lives meaning in the midst of despair? A looping guitar figure plays underneath a driving rhythm in a cloud of murky atmosphere of analog synths and tape loops. Menacing, doomed, and strangely hopeful.” For the official video, the band collaborated with experimental film directing team, TRLLM (Jak Ritger & K8 Howl) and visionary fine artist, Harry Gould Harvey IV. Together, the group translated the songs themes of military desertion, desire for solace and challenging one’s ideology into an abstract collage of high-speed videography and hand-drawings. DIIV have shared “Kid,” the second single from their forthcoming fifth album ZIRP!, due October 30 via Fantasy Recordings.
Following lead single “The Fountain,” “Kid” reveals a gentler side of the A. G. Cook-produced record, starting from an intimate acoustic core before gradually opening into a fuzzed-out, distorted finale. It’s another intriguing look at a record that finds DIIV pushing beyond the heavier shoegaze of Frog In Boiling Water while keeping the band’s hazy guitar textures and melodic instincts intact.
The single arrives with a video directed by Jaxon Whittington and filmed by vocalist Zachary Cole Smith’s son Roy and his friend Julian, giving the clip a playful child’s-eye view of the band.
