ZIRP!

ZIRP! is the fifth studio album from DIIV and the follow-up to 2024’s Frog in Boiling Water. Produced by A. G. Cook, the 11-track album is due October 30, 2026.

DIIV introduced the record through a deliberately cryptic campaign built around mailed business cards, a QR code, and a phone hotline promising “the future of alternative multimedia entertainment.” The band’s official album page describes ZIRP! as “the new alternative” and “a new genre for the 21st century.”

Per the band’s own statement, ZIRP! is their pop record—not a niche album aimed only at close-reading music obsessives, but a deliberately accessible, mainstream alternative-rock record. They contrast its sense of fun with the more serious weight of Frog in Boiling Water, saying it was fun to make and is meant to be fun to hear: “life is hard. ZIRP! is easy.”

The album opens with “The Fountain” and also includes “Kid,” “When The Glow Came For Us,” “Dare Me,” “The Crash,” “Trillions,” “Us Against You,” “Evangelizer,” “Underground,” “My Star,” and “Idiot In The Sky.”

DIIV have shared “Kid,” the second single from their forthcoming fifth album ZIRP!, due October 30 via Fantasy Recordings.

Following lead single “The Fountain,” “Kid” reveals a gentler side of the A. G. Cook-produced record, starting from an intimate acoustic core before gradually opening into a fuzzed-out, distorted finale. It’s another intriguing look at a record that finds DIIV pushing beyond the heavier shoegaze of Frog In Boiling Water while keeping the band’s hazy guitar textures and melodic instincts intact.

The single arrives with a video directed by Jaxon Whittington and filmed by vocalist Zachary Cole Smith’s son Roy and his friend Julian, giving the clip a playful child’s-eye view of the band.
