Phoenix, Arizona emo/alternative band Commoner release their debut full-length, Former Self, on November 13, 2026 via Pure Noise Records. Produced by longtime collaborator Zach Tuch, the 10-song record finds the band looking backward and moving forward at the same time, exploring childhood, memory, personal change and the ways the people around us can become different versions of themselves.

The album follows the Pure Noise singles “Breach” and “Last Exit” and arrives with “Cemetery Dogs” and “Sirens A Block Away.” The band describes “Cemetery Dogs” as a central statement for the record, focused on the pain of watching someone change and struggle beyond your ability to help, while “Sirens A Block Away” offers a more unsettled, atmospheric counterpart.

Former Self represents Commoner's current sound in full: emotionally direct emo and alternative rock expanded by post-hardcore weight, atmospheric guitars, dynamic rhythms and soaring melodic hooks. The opening track, “Cobalt Blue,” features UK band Split Chain.

Commoner are vocalist Romin Mattison, bassist Matthew Bryant, guitarist Beto Marroquin and drummer Tyler Casillo.

Commoner Announce Debut Album Former Self, Share “Cemetery Dogs” and “Sirens A Block Away”

Phoenix, Arizona emo/alternative band Commoner have announced their debut full-length, Former Self, arriving November 13 via Pure Noise Records. Produced by longtime collaborator Zach Tuch, the 10-track album looks back on childhood, memory and earlier versions of ourselves while also examining how the people around us change over time.

Alongside the announcement, Commoner have shared two new singles, “Cemetery Dogs” and “Sirens A Block Away.” The former is the album’s focus single, pairing tumultuous rhythms and emotional vulnerability with the helplessness of watching someone you once knew struggle and change beyond your ability to reach them. “Sirens A Block Away” takes a more unsettled, atmospheric turn, giving the pair a strong sense of contrast while pointing toward the broader sound of the record.

The band describe Former Self as a reflection on both where they have been and who they are now. Earlier single “Breach” served as a bridge between those two points, while the new album pushes their emotionally charged emo and alternative rock further into atmospheric, post-hardcore territory. Opening track “Cobalt Blue” also features Split Chain.
