Today is absolutely stacked with new releases, from alternative and indie-rock staples like Dinosaur Jr. and Interpol to some of the newer bands we've been following closely including Modern Daze and Scarlet House.

California shoegaze band Cold Gawd have released their new EP Glory2 today via Dais Records and shared a new music video for “Steel.”

The five-song EP builds on the muscular distortion of 2022’s God Get Me The Fuck Out of Here and the more lush production of 2024’s I’ll Drown On This Earth, while pushing the band into some new territory. Across Glory2, Cold Gawd pair their trademark blown-out guitars and pummeling grooves with 808s, glitchy breakbeats, synth textures and influences that range from Beach House and DIIV to BROCKHAMPTON and Tigers Jaw.

Lyrically, the record grew out of the exhaustion and distance that followed the band’s extensive touring cycle in 2025. Rather than functioning simply as a record about life on the road, Glory2 centers on the frustration, longing and emotional separation that can come with being away from home.

“Steel” arrives as one of the EP’s heavier moments, driven by a desire to break through what the press release describes as a figurative “steel plate” lodged in the narrator’s head. The EP closes on a more reflective note with “Glory,” written for frontman Matthew Wainwright’s late family dog Sophie, and ends the record with a sense of resolution rather than anger.

Cold Gawd will release their new EP Glory2 on August 28 via Dais Records. Crushing lead single and video for “Grease” from the forthcoming EP is streaming below.

Across 6 brand new tracks, Glory2 combines the band’s heavy shoegaze distortion, melodic atmosphere and driving post-hardcore rhythms. The EP brings forward the muscular distortion of their God Get Me The Fuck Out of Here LP (2022) and the lush production of I’ll Drown On This Earth (2024), and adapts them to a new era for the group.
