On The Quay
Connecticut indie rock band sundots will release On The Quay on November 6, 2026 via Nettwerk. Their second album and first full-band record brings the project’s hazy guitar melodies into more expansive arrangements, drawing on the slow-burning atmosphere of Duster, Red House Painters and Galaxie 500 and the intricate emo interplay of Karate.
Much of the record took shape during a writing and demo weekend in a Vermont cabin at the end of 2025. Kevin S. McMahon (Real Estate, Widowspeak, Swans) produced, engineered, mixed and mastered the twelve tracks at Marcata Recording in New Paltz, New York, helping preserve the give-and-take of the band’s live performances. “I really wanted to capture the essence of sundots as a live act,” Collins explains.
Collins’ lyrics combine personal experience with ideas drawn from fiction. “Grassy Lawn” approaches a fading summer romance through Ian McEwan’s First Love, Last Rites, while “Someone Else’s Song” takes cues from “The Dead,” the closing story in James Joyce’s Dubliners. “Distraction,” inspired by David Foster Wallace’s The Broom of the System, uses an expanding post-rock structure to explore unrequited love and divided attention.
Released tracks “Grassy Lawn,” “Distraction,” “Someone Else’s Song” and “Idols” can be streamed below. The album is available to pre-order, with artwork by Lorenzo Torres Narciso.
