Spanish Love Songs announce new album Future Nausea, share “Good American”

Spanish Love Songs have announced their fifth full-length, Future Nausea, arriving November 6 via Pure Noise Records. Produced by former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla alongside Sarah Tudzin of Illuminati Hotties, the record finds the band pushing their heart-on-sleeve punk and emo roots toward something bigger and more widescreen.
Rather than leaning into the nostalgia often associated with heartland rock, Future Nausea turns that sound toward an increasingly uncertain present. Shimmering synths, ringing guitars, driving rhythms and huge choruses provide the backdrop for Dylan Slocum’s writing on political violence, late-stage capitalism, isolation and trying to find some reason to keep moving forward.
“When I first sat down to work on the record, I basically told everybody I just wanted to make a big rock record,” Slocum says, adding that he wanted the album to be “more angry than sad.”
That comes through immediately on lead single “Good American,” a driving, stripped-down rocker that Slocum calls “maybe the angriest song I’ve ever written.” The band intentionally kept the recording minimal and loud, with a rolling bassline and four-on-the-floor pulse giving it the kind of shout-along urgency Spanish Love Songs do so well.
